We don't just have hawker style food like the ones I have just mentioned but also Malaysian and Singapore dishes that you would order and eat with rice.

It is complete as it is served with coconut rice plus hard boiled egg, curry chicken, sambal chilli (a type of chilli paste), fried peanuts with fried anchovies and so forth, as shown in the photo below.
Best way to understand hawkers food is have a look at different hawkers in Malaysia and Singapore (maybe youtube them). The hawkers only usually cook one type dish and it is a complete dish. As in you won't need any extra side main dish to go with it. You can just eat it as it is served.
